MAKING RAINBOW

  • Hey Cubs, you all must have seen a rainbow either in real life or a picture. Rainbows are made up of all seven colours – Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red (VIBGYOR). Rainbows are formed in the sky usually when sun shines after rain as the sunlight bends and reflects through the water vapour. But do you know, no two people see the exact same rainbow as the way light bends and reflects back to each person is different. Today let’s enjoy making rainbows at home.

Hey Cubs, you all must have seen a rainbow either in real life or a picture. Rainbows are made up of seven colours – Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red (VIBGYOR).  Rainbows are formed in the sky usually when sun shines after rain as the sunlight bends and reflects through the water vapour. But do you know, no two people see the exact same rainbow this is because the way light bends and reflects back to each person is different.

Today let’s enjoy making rainbows at home.

    Material

    • Piece of white paper
    • Prism
    • Sunlight (preferably a bright sunny morning)

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Place a piece of white paper on the ground under the sunlight.
    2. Place the prism on or above the paper.
    3. Adjust the paper in such a way that the light should fall on paper.
    4. Rotate the prism until you see rainbow colours on the paper.
    5. Turn and move the prism in different ways and explore how the size of rainbow changes.

Cubs, do share the experience of making wonderful rainbows and have a colourful day ahead!
